ILUMINADA GARCÍA-TORRES (Elche, Spain, 1949). She studied at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts (RABASF building) and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) from 1965 to 1970. In 1969, she was a student of the geometric painter Eusebio Sempere while he was participating in the Seminar on Automatic Generation of Plastic Forms at the Calculation Center of the University of Madrid.
From 1986 to 1988, Iluminada García-Torres painted (with a copyist license) at the Prado National Museum in Madrid, creating two oil-on-canvas paintings of the classical marble sculpture Sleeping Ariadne in Naxos (in Classical Mythology, Ariadne's thread reveals the way out of the Labyrinth).She displayed these paintings at the Galileo Cultural Center in 1995 and previously in a solo exhibition at the Albatros Gallery in Madrid in 1990, alongside compositions featuring metaphysical and architectural influences.This was the last solo exhibition of realistic painting held by Iluminada García-Torres, marking the beginning of her mathematical and geometric research in 1991. She presented this research in 1993 during the geometric art exhibition "COMBINABLES- TRAZADO ESPACIAL CONTINUO" (Combinables - Continuous Spatial Tracing) by Iluminada García-Torres at the Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo (CAM) in Alicante (37 Oscar Esplá Ave., 20/05–09/06/1993). In the catalog, she wrote the mathematical and geometric concept for the creative process of her work in painting, sculpture, and New Technologies, titled "ARIADNE'S THREAD". The catalog also featured a text by Segundo García (1929–2014), Drawing Professor and Director (1993) of La Asegurada Museum in Alicante (MACA), who also authored the text for her 1996 exhibition "GEOMETRÍAS" at the Juan Gil-Albert Alicante Institute of Culture."CONCEPT of the geometric-digital artwork by visual artist Iluminada García-Torres (1949, Elche, Spain) in the catalogs and exhibitions (1993–2015) in Madrid, London, Valencia, Alicante, and Elche-Elx: Compositions based on <lines drawn within each 'mathematical matrix-unit square'> with sides consisting of aligned with adjacent squares deploy a 'continuum' of visual rhythms expanded into cartographies of musicality. These rhythms reflect a perception of various cities and countries through computer variables derived from her original 1991 'Combinables' concept.
